Absolutely Anything Essential is owned by producer Kenya Renee, who is no stranger to entrepreneurship. Kenya comes from a family of business owners and credits her grandmother who taught her how to use her creativity to inspire others and deal fairly with vendors.
Her grandmother, known as Ethel Mae Robertson, who passed away September 2017 at age 92 was all about diversification. She was a known seamstress in Chicago, sold her handmade quilts, skirts and handcrafted lye soap to private clients and at local markets for over 50 years. And worked diligently to build solid foundations for her family.
Her husband is a business owner and independent filmmaker and her cousins are successful small business owners as well. Owners of Hyde Park Hair Salon, the official salon of President Obama. Nita's Gumbo and Nikki Nicole Collections.
We continue our efforts to be environmentally conscious in all parts of business. In fall 2016 we proudly introduced our recycle program that helps our customers reduce carbon imprints and save money on their favorite Absolutely Anything Essential product.
How did all of this happen?
With a passion for all things creative, and going back to simpler times utilizing natural ingredients and recycled remnants, all while sticking to a budget. was initially created as a pop up gift shop gracing flea markets and vendor events throughout Illinois for Pier One Import Lovers and Hobby Lobby Addicts. Over the past two years Kenya has grown her business as a certified Minority Women Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE), gained global recognition and has become a hub for south side residents, visitors, artists and those who love crafting and inspiring others. Oops....and let's not forget the supporter of small businesses.
